Fix U.S. Highway 14

Fix U.S. Highway 14
The Issue
U.S. Highway 14 is one of the most dangerous rural roadways in Minnesota. The highway has higher than average crash rates and more than 125 people have died on Highway 14 in the last 20 years. It is also one of the most heavily traveled. More than 8,000 vehicles use the Dodge Center to Owatonna stretch of Highway 14 every day. With numerous blind intersections, through-city driving and growing congestion, Highway 14 is putting the region’s safety at risk. We need to act now to fix Highway 14.
The region’s population and job growth are only expected to increase. Expansions at the Mayo Clinic alone, which is served by Highway 14, are expected to create 35,000 to 45,000 new jobs. Providing safe roads connecting livable communities will give residents more choices to live and work.
The longer the state waits to invest in Highway 14, the more expensive the projects get, the more unsafe the road becomes, and the more economic opportunity is lost.
Progress has been made over the last year on U.S. Highway 14 but we can't complete the project without new funding in 2014. Please voice your support on this issue and help urge legislators to make transportation a priority in 2014 by helping secure new funding to fix Highway 14.
