On this beautiful snowy day, I’m thrilled to share that our petition, with 230+ signatures, has led to a major win! The NJ DOT has committed to making significant safety upgrades:
- Countdown pedestrian signal heads will be installed, including a Leading Pedestrian Interval (LPI) to allow pedestrians to start crossing before parallel traffic gets the green light.
- The signal timing will be revised to increase the pedestrian crossing time.
- High-visibility crosswalks with ladder-style markings will be implemented for all approaches to make pedestrian crossings more noticeable to drivers.
- Additional school crossing warning signs and advance school crossing signs will be installed to provide advance notice of the crossing.
NJ DOT also mentioned that a 25 mph school zone could be established in the future, pending support from Woodbridge Township.
While this is fantastic progress, I’ll monitor to ensure these improvements are implemented. Thank you all for your support, as this wouldn’t have been possible without you! Wishing everyone happy holidays and a wonderful New Year!
