Fix the leak in Staplehurst
The Issue
After more than 18 months, the unfortunate reality we face in our village is that the noticeable and impactful water leak on the main road outside Kin Coffee remains unattended and unresolved by Maidstone Borough Council and South East Water, despite 5+ attempts of fixing it.
For too long, this leak has plagued our village, affecting daily commutes, hindering local business operations, and making our community unsafe, especially with the approach of winter and sub zero temperatures.
This water leak is not just a minor inconvenience; it is a glaring manifestation of inefficiency and neglect that puts the safety of our residents at risk.
In addition, this water waste presents a grave contradiction to our collective environmental efforts as a community striving for sustainability. Every drop wasted from this leak counters our commitment to water conservation, especially as societies increasingly prioritize responsible resource use in the face of climate change.
Despite repeated calls for action, adequate and lasting solutions have yet to be implemented by our local authorities. We believe it is time for both Maidstone Borough Council and South East Water to prioritize our village and demonstrate their responsibility towards the communities they serve. With collaborative action and transparency, a sustainable solution can be achieved.
Here’s what we propose:
1. **Immediate Repair**: Deploy immediate resources to resolve the current water leak with robust, lasting repairs that will prevent reoccurrence. This repair is to be conducted during daylight hours, and we should not be subject to any more overnight roadworks for this issue, which is affecting the homes and residences in proximity to the work.
2. **Comprehensive Assessment**: Conduct a thorough investigation to understand the root cause and infrastructure shortcomings to prevent future leaks.
3. **Community Communication**: Establish a clear communication channel between authorities and the residents to keep us informed about plans, progress, and timelines for repairs.
4. **Environmental Strategy**: Commit to developing an environmentally friendly approach to infrastructure repairs, keeping sustainability at the forefront of all future projects.
This is our home, our livelihood, and our community. We deserve to live in an environment where our safety and prosperity are not compromised by avoidable oversights. We call upon our councils and service providers to respect and protect these fundamental rights.
Please join us in holding Maidstone Borough Council and South East Water accountable. Lend your voice to our cause, and let us ensure that change is enacted for the wellbeing of our village.
