Fix the Floor of Freedom Field

Fix the Floor of Freedom Field
The Issue
Many children ages 2-12 who live in Columbus, IN like to play at Freedom Field, located jointly at Blackwell Park and Parkside Elementary School. This large playground sports signs saying it is an “all inclusive” playground; it is actually one of the largest inclusive playgrounds in the country. It was dedicated in 2006 after being planned and fundraised for by two local moms, Amy Leinhoop and Laurie Booher. https://www.kid-at-art.com/htdoc/freedom.html
Unfortunately, this amazing playground has become unsafe. The rubbery tiles that create its floor have become brittle from sun and heat exposure, causing several large holes and numerous cracks. Children and grown-ups must be extremely attentive to where their feet land on this surface or risk tripping, falling, or spraining an ankle. Children have, in fact, been injured by these potholes. Some parents have even stopped taking their children to Freedom Field due to the hazardous holes.
Can we really continue to call this an inclusive playground when children have been injured by its disrepair?
The Columbus Parks and Recreation Department has neglected the maintenance of this popular playground long enough. Please repair or replace the flooring of Freedom Field this summer!
