As a student at SAIC, going up and down in our dorm ought to be a simple part of our daily routine. However, for those of us living in 162, this basic expectation hasn’t been met due to the malfunctioning elevators. Every day, students have to face challenge of either waiting an increasingly long time for the elevators, hoping it won't get stuck between floors, or climbing up multiple flights of stairs, which is especially challenging for those with mobility issues or heavy backpacks full of textbooks and laptops, or if you live on the top floor. The issue with elevators in Building 162 has been persistent for months, and numerous complaints have gone unnoticed.

We urge the institute to take immediate action to fix the elevators by securing necessary funding and partnering with maintenance experts who understand the complexity of these systems. It’s crucial to start a maintenance schedule to prevent future disruptions, ensuring that elevators are kept in optimal working order.
