NO! This is NOT a rockfall on the Brown Mountain pass linking Canberra, Cooma and the Monaro to the Bega Valley and the Far south Coast of NSW. BUT there have been rockfalls just as big as this on the Brown Mountain, fortunately not colliding with passing trucks and cars. Two rocks this big completely blocked the Brown Mountain in 2020 and had to be blown up with explosives. Then there are regular tree fall and landslip risks on the Brown Mountain pass which is a sub-standard, unsafe, unreliable and unstable section of an offical NSW State Highway - the Snowy Mountains Highway. The Brown Mountain pass climbs 1,000 metres up the Great Divide escarpment through 10 kilometres of 77 corners, five hairpins and switchbacks with only one too-short overtaking lane going up and no overtaking going down, crawling behind trucks and buses in low gear. Landslips still unrepaired after two years cause long holiday traffic jams on the mountain due to fixed-interval "dumb" traffic lights, delaying single-lane red light access. Transport NSW has no plans to upgrade the Brown Mountain past 10 years. SIGN OUR PETITION TO FIX THE BROWN AND SHARE ON YOUR SOCIALS.
