On top of the 2 December, 2023 landslip on Brown Mountain affecting traffic in both directions, just 6 days later on Friday 8 December this massive treefall closed the road until hardworking road crews arrived to chainsaw it to the roadsides. No one injured fortunately, but once again this shows the Brown Mountain road is unsafe and unreliable and unworthy of being called an official State Highway ( Snowy Mountains Highway ). Thursday 7 December saw a 30-minute traffic jam on Brown Mountain due to oversized trucks bringing down prefab buildings and consequent long delays caused by the two, now virtually permanent, red light single-lane choke points at landslip locations.  These are unintelligent lights with fixed time intervals jamming up ascending traffic, for example, when there is no descending traffic. Fixing the Brown is of course a long-term project - but the way to start is for $15m Federal/State funding of an external independent engineering study to recommend the best approach. YOU can help FIX THE BROWN by signing the petition at fixthebrown.com (at change.org) as 830 people have already done. Then please SHARE the petition on your networks.  Thank you for caring.
