The Issue

I have been personally impacted by the failures of Maryland's current tax connect portal. Despite fulfilling my obligations to file returns, I encountered a major issues when the portal did not process payments as expected. As a result, many of Maryland business owners faced not only fines but also massive interest and late fees. Many businesses throughout Maryland are experiencing similar difficulties, which stem from the unreliable state of this crucial online system.

Maryland's tax connect portal is intended to facilitate business operations by allowing efficient filing of sales and use tax and withholding returns. Instead, it has become a source of frustration and financial strain for many business owners. Frequent access issues and service outages disrupt daily operations and unfairly penalize those who are unable to file on time due to the system's shortcomings.

Changes are urgently needed to address these ongoing challenges. The state government must prioritize the upgrade and maintenance of the tax connect portal to ensure consistent and reliable access. Enhancements should include robust technological infrastructure, increased server capacity to handle traffic efficiently, and a user-friendly interface that simplifies the filing process.

Moreover, businesses should be provided with a grace period or temporary relief from fines when the system failures cause delays. Open communication and timely notifications regarding system issues should also be implemented to ensure that all users are informed and prepared for any disruptions.

By improving the Maryland tax connect portal, we can support our local businesses, stimulate economic growth, and foster a more trustworthy relationship between the state and its entrepreneurs. Please join this petition and urge the state government to take immediate action in revamping the system for the betterment of Maryland's business community. Your signature can make a difference.
