Fix the Angled Parking Striping on S. Clinton Street – Restore Safety & Space!
The Issue
The 100 block of S. Clinton Street in Baltimore recently got new back-in angled parking spaces as part of a BGE construction project—but they were re-striped at the wrong angle, and it’s causing big problems for neighbors, visitors, and local businesses.
Previously, the parking spaces were drawn at approximately 55 degrees, offering ample room for car doors, passengers, strollers, groceries, and everyday use. But the new lines were painted at a steeper 45-degree angle, which made each space narrower and less functional—even though the driving lane is already extremely wide.
Here’s what went wrong:
The steeper angle pinches each space, reducing usable width (now only 8 feet wide, compared to the original 8’1”–8’6”).
The spaces now stretch too far north and south, spilling into designated no-parking zones.
It’s harder to park, open doors, and load or unload safely.
This change wasn’t needed—we already have a wide driving lane, so prioritizing extra drive space doesn’t make sense for this block.
We’re asking the City and BGE to fix this mistake by restoring the original 55-degree angle striping. That would:
Bring back safer, more usable spaces
Preserve important curb frontage
Reflect how this block has always functioned best
Please sign this petition to show support for correcting this unnecessary and frustrating design change. Let’s get our parking spaces back to what they were—safe, spacious, and functional for everyone.
