Fix the air cooling systems on Metroline buses
The Issue
I am a dedicated bus driver for Metroline in London, and I am reaching out with a sincere concern that impacts not only my fellow drivers but also the thousands of passengers who rely on us daily. Each day, as we navigate the bustling streets of London, we are tasked with the utmost responsibility—ensuring safe and comfortable travel for all who board our buses. However, we face a significant challenge that jeopardizes this promise: the malfunctioning air cooling systems on our buses.
During summer months, temperatures inside the buses regularly soar to unbearable heights, often reaching between 42 to 45 degrees Celsius. This not only affects us drivers, causing heat-related exhaustion and fatigue, but it also places our passengers, including the most vulnerable such as the elderly and children, at risk. It's unacceptable and frankly dangerous to operate under these conditions.
The Department for Transport mandates standards for driver working conditions, and the lack of a functional AC system is a clear violation. Studies have shown that high temperatures can lead to decreased concentration and slower reaction times, endangering both drivers and passengers. Moreover, public health reports emphasize the increased risk of heat-related illnesses.
We demand that Metroline takes immediate action. This means investing in the maintenance and repair of all air cooling systems to ensure they're fully operational. Metroline has a responsibility to provide safe working conditions for its employees and a comfortable environment for its passengers.
Join us in urging Metroline to prioritize this urgent matter. Proper air conditioning is not a luxury—it's a necessity for safety and well-being. By signing this petition, you are advocating for the welfare of both Metroline employees and its many passengers. Let's ensure that every journey on a Metroline bus is safe and comfortable. We need your support to drive this change and create safer, more comfortable travel for all. Please, sign this petition and help us make a difference.
