I have been playing bowls at the Plymouth Life Centre for some time now, and it's something I truly love and enjoy—it's more than a sport; it’s my passion. However, something that greatly affects my playing experience and that of my fellow players is the sweltering heat in the bowls hall due to the lack of a functioning air conditioning system.

The Plymouth Life Centre is a fantastic facility, offering a multitude of sporting activities that serve both the local community and visitors alike. Yet, without a properly functioning air conditioning system in the bowls hall, it becomes unbearably hot, particularly when there's a large crowd. This excessive heat can not only seriously impact our ability to play but also poses health risks, such as heat exhaustion and dehydration.

Statistics show that high temperature in indoor facilities can impair physical performance and mental concentration, leading to a less enjoyable and potentially hazardous environment. For instance, according to the NHS, prolonged exposure to extreme heat can lead to heat stroke, heat exhaustion, and severe dehydration—issues that indoor athletes and sports enthusiasts can be prone to.

It’s crucial that the management of Plymouth Life Centre takes immediate action to resolve this matter. Installing a new, efficient air conditioning system can vastly improve the conditions within the bowls hall, ensuring safety and enhancing the overall experience for both players and spectators. Moreover, it can increase player satisfaction and encourage more people, young and old, to participate in healthy sporting activities.

I am urging the management and the local council to prioritise this issue and allocate necessary resources to fix the air conditioning system in the bowls hall.
