My parents, who are in their 80's, reside on the 6th Concession N in Amherstburg, ON. The road is in a dire state, crumbling and unsafe for travel. The road is so poor that some medical providers have reconsidered offering services to my parents, fearing damage to their vehicles.

My father, who relies on a scooter for mobility, is unable to use the trail next door due to the deplorable condition of the road.  This greatly limits his freedom and independence.  

The impact of this deteriorating infrastructure doesn't end there. My mother is forced to take longer routes to town to avoid further damage to her car. She had to pay a mechanic to fix a loose tie rod and control arm that was caused by excessive bouncing. This not only wastes time and resources but also adds unnecessary stress to her daily life.

Despite these significant challenges, the town council continues to prioritize excessive spending on festivals and parks within the town, disregarding the fundamental need to maintain basic infrastructure on the amalgamated portions of the township, like 6th Concession N.  They claim they have no money and the road isn't slated for reconstruction for 6 years!  This decision was based on a 2021 Road Needs Study.  This study was done before the 2023/2024 closure of Howard Avenue for 9 months, which tripled the traffic on the already crumbling 6th Concession.  An email request to council to take a trip down the 6th to see for themselves fell on deaf ears. The Mayor said they would take a look in 2027, with potential repairs in 2031.  This is indicative of the lack of care, concern, and safety standards of its rural residents. The road is unsafe.  Someone is going to get hurt or killed if it isn't fixed.

Our community deserves better roads that ensure safety and accessibility for all residents. The council must redirect necessary funds to repair the 6th Concession N immediately. By doing so, they can create a safe environment, prevent further isolation of residents like my parents, and restore the quality of life for everyone in the area. 

Please join me in urging the Amherstburg town council to take immediate action and prioritize the repair of 6th Concession Road N between Middle Side and Alma.
