Fix Steps and Fountain at Asda North Swindon (part-victory)

The Issue

On the 26th of November 2001, Asda opened their supermarket in North Swindon. In 2002, the Orbital Shopping Park was opened right next to the supermarket. Both the Orbital and Asda create the North Swindon District Centre. Whilst the majority of this land is owned by the Orbital Shopping Park, a small area comprising of a set of steps and a fountain, is owned by Asda.

In or around 2013, The Underground Youth Club (situated under the steps) suffered leaking issues, as a result of this, the steps were removed to locate the cause of the leak. As a result of this, the steps simply were never fixed, and were covered with hoardings for years. Around the same time, the fountains located next to the steps were never switched on again.

We created this petition in January 2023 to help bring this area back to its glory. A few months later, Asda began fixing their steps, and these were reopened to the public on the 9th of August 2023. On the day the steps were unveiled, we reached out to Asda Service Team online hoping to find out about the fountains, who informed us that "Hi Yes we do hope to have the fountains working again in the future- Hope you have a great day".

We believe that Asda are currently cost-cutting (as per various media reports in and around August 2023) and therefore the fountains are very unlikely to be worked on based on this. Therefore, we decided to close this petition, but want to thank everyone for their support, especially the people who donated.

Who knows, once Asda's cost-cutting spree has ended, the fountains will be one day restored to their former glory. To anyone reading this years into the future looking to start another petition to get them going again - please do it!
