I live in downtown Indianapolis — steps from our legal and administrative buildings — and I’m calling on city and state leaders to rethink how Indiana handles traffic enforcement and infrastructure.

Here’s the problem:

Indiana’s roads are in terrible condition, with endless construction, short-term patches, and zero lasting results.

Speed cameras and traffic surveillance are now being used to track and fine drivers, while roads remain dangerous and neglected.

This system punishes drivers for reacting to poorly maintained roads, not reckless behavior.

We’re asking the wrong question.

Instead of asking “How do we catch more speeders?”

We should be asking: “Why are people forced to speed up, swerve, or brake hard just to survive Indiana roads?”

What We’re Demanding:

Audit of all ongoing and past road projects in Indianapolis and statewide

Where’s the money going? Why are results worse after repairs?

Moratorium on new traffic camera enforcement until road quality improves

Stop penalizing drivers until infrastructure is brought up to safe standards.

Use traffic data for insights, not just fines

Leverage license plate and speed tracking to identify high-risk road designs and congestion patterns.

Introduce performance-based contracts for road crews

Pay for results, not just project start dates.

Create a public accountability dashboard for road conditions

Citizens should be able to see real-time updates on road repair timelines and budgets.

Why This Matters:

The true danger on Indiana roads isn’t always the drivers — it’s the roads themselves. Constant construction, potholes, and dangerous intersections create far more risk than a 5-mph speed overage in a modern vehicle with safety tech.
