Fix or Remove KHS Artificial Intelligence Course
The Issue
When I first saw the KHS Artificial Intelligence (AI) course, I felt disappointed. This course represents a concerning shift in our school's educational priorities.
First, AI technology has a massive environmental cost. Training these complex models requires enormous energy, leading to high carbon emissions and depleted natural resources. We must ask if expanding AI education is worth these ecological consequences.
KHS should prioritize a diverse curriculum that promotes sustainable practices and genuine human innovation, rather than simply rushing into modern tech trends. Let’s bring back a passion for learning that does not rely on machines or algorithms.
Our AI course does not advocate against AI; instead, it frames it as a helpful tool for assignments and studying. If we can't have no AI course then I believe the KHS administration must be more realistic about the negative consequences and ethical concerns AI brings. KHS should adopt a more balanced approach that realistically addresses the ethical concerns and negative impacts of AI. While the course aims to educate students, its current methodology requires a fundamental shift to be truly effective. While the course aims to educate students, its current approach is fundamentally flawed.
A revised curriculum must move away from superficial implementation and instead focus on digital literacy, AI ethics, critical thinking, and addressing widespread misinformation. Our students and peers deserve a curriculum that prepares them responsibly for the future, rather than rushing to adopt a trend without proper educational guardrails.
Please sign this petition to advocate for change at KHS. We are urging the school to either replace the Artificial Intelligence course or completely restructure it to provide students with more accurate and meaningful guidance.
