Fix NYC Subways: Fund the MTA!

The Issue

Every day, millions of New Yorkers experience the direct consequences of a chronically underfunded Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA). This affects everyone from students traveling to school and workers commuting to their jobs to families going to clinics, elders visiting loved ones, individuals with disabilities mobilizing, and tourists exploring our vibrant city. We endure frequent delays that disrupt our schedules and cost us valuable time. We are crammed into overcrowded trains, making our daily commutes uncomfortable and, at times, unsafe. The visible deterioration of stations and infrastructure falls behind global standards, creating not only an environment of neglect and unsafety but also undermining our trust in a system we rely on. Countless individuals, including you and me, are faced with a reality where our transit system is a cause of concern for our inflexible schedules and safety.

If we allow the MTA to continue to struggle with insufficient funding, the consequences will be far-reaching. Our city's economic vitality is linked to our MTA subways, but with inadequate funds, we face persistent delays and unreliable services that hinder our productivity and make it harder for businesses to thrive. The continuing decline of our subways negatively impacts our quality of life, limiting opportunities and exacerbating existing inequities. Investing in the MTA isn't just about fixing trains; it's about ensuring a more accessible, equitable, and sustainable New York for all.

The signs of underfunding are undeniable, with frequent complaints about subway services, safety concerns, and limited accessibility features across stations proving it. We are at a critical moment where decisive action is needed to prevent further decline and invest in the durability of our subway system. By signing this petition, you add your voice to a demand for immediate and dedicated funding for the MTA. Now is the time to amplify the voices of frustrated riders, demonstrate our collective commitment to a world-class transit system, and urge Governor Hochul and our state legislators to prioritize proactive approaches to saving this vital public service with additional funding.
