Kahuku High and Intermediate school is an award winning school for academics, sports, CTE, and performing arts, yet we deal every day with power issues that threaten our health and safety. 

Our classrooms are hot. The existing structures can’t handle AC or even multiple fans in every room, and the ones that do have AC break sometimes from power surges. They can’t be replaced because the DOE has a bad system for repair and maintenance. 

Some of our classrooms go without power and/or internet for weeks. This means our rooms don’t have working phones or any way to access technology for teaching and learning.

We deserve for the state to actually fix this problem rather than keep having to patch it just to have another classroom lose power. 

Kahuku has done everything we can to follow the rules set by the DOE for repairs and maintenance and no real solution has been offered. Clearly something needs to change.
