Mountain House became California's 483rd city in July 2024 — but we still have only ONE high school for all 9 of our K–8 schools.

The original town plan, approved back in 1996, was built around a single high school. That plan was never updated, even as our community grew exponentially. One area of town, originally zoned for a senior community with no expectation of high schoolers, was later rezoned for young families — a decision directly responsible for our 9th K–8 school. Every one of those kids will eventually funnel into the same one high school.

This isn't just today's problem. Every child currently in elementary or middle school will hit this same wall in the years ahead.

Today, our school district is struggling to give every student equal access to instruction:

• Some students are placed in online classes simply because there isn't enough physical classroom space
• Classrooms rely too heavily on substitutes, with some positions left unfilled for long stretches
• Requested academic pathways are not honored
• AP course availability is limited or nonexistent
• Students can't even swap a flex period for an actual class
• Honors class requests go unmet
• Clubs are overflowing beyond capacity

This deprives our students of equal learning opportunities. 

We're asking the Governing Board to:

1. Share whether a plan exists to address overcrowding — including whether a second high school is being considered
2. Provide a timeline for restoring access to pathways, courses, and instruction our students are entitled to
3. Commit to regular, transparent updates for parents
