Fix Hardy Elementary Joint Use Field - Keep Our Kids Safe While They Play
The Issue
Students, Teachers & Staff, and Hardy Families agree...
Immediate attention is needed, by THE CITY OF SAN DIEGO, to the dangerous condition of the Hardy Elementary School Joint-Use Field.
We strongly request THE CITY OF SAN DIEGO take immediate action to:
- Level the Field
- Cut Back the Overgrowth
- Clear the Field of Hazards
- Install A Proper Walking Track
- Trim the Trees
THE CITY OF SAN DIEGO has a joint-use contract with Hardy Elementary, under which THE CITY OF SAN DIEGO is responsible for maintaining the field. However, I’m sorry to say THE CITY OF SAN DIEGO is not holding up to its side of the contract, and the field has become a safety hazard for our children.
Kids are getting hurt while playing on the field due to its uneven surface, and there is animal waste all over the field because of visiting dog owners not cleaning up after their pets. The grass and plant overgrowth around the field is also out of control, making it difficult for the kids to run and play safely. Moreover, the field lacks any walking track or designated paths, making it chaotic and dangerous for ours kids to move around during their activities.
We urge THE CITY OF SAN DIEGO to take prompt action to ensure the field is properly maintained and safe by the end of May, before the end-of-year field day in June.
We cannot afford to put our children's safety at risk any longer. Failure to do so will result in more injuries and health hazards to the students and visitors, ultimately leading to legal repercussions.
Hardy Joint Use Field:

Palm trees are safety hazards, fire hazards, prone to infestations, and if left on their own without maintenance, may deteriorate altogether. These are the reasons why palm trees need to be pruned on a consistent basis.
