ITS ALICE IN WONDERLAND DAY!
Its here, the date I have been dreading since May last year when I came across the heartbreaking Reddit post - I really don’t like and have a big aversion to today (April 5th 2026), my awful anti-Easter day!
May I thank you all who have taken the time to sign my very personal and unique campaign, it has been a way to get my story heard about celebrating Easter on March 22nd 2026 and a way for neurotypical people to understand just how difficult it can be for neurodivergent individuals like myself when it comes to having certain fixations like my obsession with calendars and dates.
This campaign is far from over, we have 17 years to plan to urge/demand policymakers, religious authorities and leaders to move the official date of Easter Sunday to March 22nd in either 2043, 2054 or possibly even 2065 as a one-off occasion to allow Western Christians to experience a once-in-a-lifetime event just like the many Orthodox Christians alive today who have already have done so.
The front page image on my campaign is of one of the customised “Busy Bee” birthday books from Amazon.co.uk which I converted into a 2026 diary for a family member, listing March 22nd as “Easter for me”.
Prior to 1980, the last time Orthodox Easter hit the third-earliest date, March 24th on the Julian Calendar was in the year 1896 (less than 100 years before) whereas there was a 141-year gap between 1799 and 1940 for the same date on the Gregorian Calendar.
While there is a large gap between 1980 and 2143 for March 24th on the Julian Calendar, that is still SIGNIFICANTLY SHORTER than the nearly 500 years between 1940 and 2391 for the same date on the Gregorian Calendar (with the Julian 1980 and 2143 dates occurring between 1940 and 2391).
Between 1941 and 2049, the second-earliest Orthodox date OCCURS FOUR TIMES so I am using this as proof and evidence that there ARE people alive today that have naturally seen “Easter” on both its earliest and latest possible dates (Orthodox Christians, all within the last 50 years) so extremely early and late dates DO HAPPEN MORE OFTEN in the Orthodox calendar – its not fair, its not fair, ITS NOT FAIR!
ITS NOT FAIR!
ITS NOT FAIR!
ITS NOT FAIR!
While seeing next year’s Easter date (March 28th) in shops or parks will not be a personal trigger due to my disability, at the same time however it won’t acknowledge the May 2nd Orthodox Easter date which will inevitably cause problems for Orthodox Christians in Western countries like the UK.
Creating this petition now (ahead of 2027) means that the lack of inclusivity for minority groups needs to be addressed, which is a secondary goal of this campaign as I’m killing two birds with one stone.
Next year, 2027, I will revert back to following the UK’s standard calendar and will observe Shrove Tuesday, Mothering Sunday and Easter ON THE OFFICIAL DATE and at the same time as everybody else in the UK!
Operating on a “personal” calendar two weeks ahead of the rest of the UK has been tough, as I’ve had to explain to everyone that I’m “two weeks ahead” of them and I purchased all those “Busy Bee” Birthday diaries on Amazon.co.uk during my 2025 Christmas shopping to let everyone know about my unique Easter observance because I didn’t want to be alone in celebrating Easter on March 22nd 2026. I ultimately created this campaign ahead of that date to get my story heard about my very unique Easter celebration on March 22nd 2026.
Regarding 2027, its not the five-week gap itself that causes problems for Orthodox Christians in countries like the UK, it’s the lack of inclusivity for minority groups such as retailers clearing out seasonal items like hot cross buns and Easter eggs. It is just luck that the early May bank holiday falls on Orthodox Easter 2027.
The “Worst case scenario” years:
Whenever Western Easter falls close to its earliest possible date or Orthodox Easter falls close to its latest possible date, not only is there a five-week gap between the two celebrations but there is also NO accompanying bank holiday for Orthodox Easter Monday!
In 2008 (the most recent “problem year”), Orthodox Easter Monday fell on Monday 28th April, one week BEFORE the UK’s early May bank holiday and in 1983, Orthodox Easter Monday fell on Monday 9th May which was one week AFTER the UK’s early May bank holiday. The next such “problem year” will be 2035, nine years from now so this petition serves as a warning before 2035!
Now that the dreaded day is here after dreading it for nearly a year, at least I won’t be seeing “Easter Sunday – 5th April 2026” signs anymore or hearing rail announcements for the “wrong” Easter weekend, which for me I have found difficult as it has not been “matching” my brain’s personal liturgical calendar which set the date of Easter as Sunday 22nd March, 2026.
Of the 365 days of 2026, only 362 of them are not Easter dates!
Creating the deeply personal campaign has helped me immensely through my personal struggle regarding seeing signs for a date which for me is not Easter Sunday and I have been having regular counselling sessions throughout this difficult spring season I have been facing – If any of you could do me a favour, we need more Supporter Comments on my campaign and for you to subscribe to my Change.org update emails.
Happy 46th Birthday to all the Orthodox Christians who got their ultimate prize!:
Although it’s the dreaded day today, Orthodox Christians born on this date in 1980 who got the “ultimate prize” of seeing their third-earliest (1980), latest (1983) and earliest (2010) Easter dates before turning 30 (as mentioned in my previous update) are celebrating their 46th birthday today, on Orthodox Palm Sunday.
Greece, The Land of the Extreme Easter Dates!:
I now call Greece the Land of the Extreme Easter Dates because Orthodox Easter is an official public holiday there, and they officially celebrated their earliest and latest dates in 1983 and 2010 respectively.
- · Norway is known as the Land of the Midnight Sun
- · The USA is known as the New World
- · Australia is known as the Land Down Under
- · Japan is known as the Land of the Rising Sun
- · Iceland is known as the Land of Fire and Ice
- · Greece is known as the Land of the Extreme Easter Dates (along with the Greek Islands)!
I will be watching Johnny Depp’s Alice in Wonderland later today (which came out in that MAGIC Orthodox Easter year) and I saw Disney’s animated version yesterday (it came out in 1951, a year which featured a massive five-week gap between the two Easter dates).
When I go into shops next year and every year thereafter, at least I will be seeing Easter signs for the “right date” even though I have mentioned the recurring issue of there being no Easter eggs or hot cross buns for Orthodox Easter in UK shops in my previous campaign updates.
This campaign is relevant for 2027 and I urge ALL Orthodox Christians living in the UK, the Republic of Ireland, the USA, Canada, South Africa, New Zealand and Australia to sign because this campaign is NOT JUST ABOUT changing the date for 2043 or 2054, its for you too!
I am sending a huge thank you to all my 135+ supporters who have taken the time to sign my very unique and deeply meaningful campaign!
