Now available! The official, legal petition to get the Repeal the Death Tax initiative on the November 2024 ballot is here!
We are excited to tell you that the official petition for Repeal the Death Tax is now available for download at:
RepealTheDeathTax.com
You can download the official petition right now at that link. The petition is a standard letter-sized page, so you can print a legally valid petition on any printer, on standard 8-1/2" by 11" paper.
The petition is in a pdf file along with complete instructions and the legally required Official Top Funders sheet that must be shown to every petition signer. (This sheet will be updated every month, you'll always be able to get the latest one on our website.)
You can print as many petitions as you'd like to circulate and you can also make copies on any copier. If using a copier, just be sure the top margin of the copies is the same as the original. The top margin must be at least 1 inch, that's one of the requirements for a legally valid petition.
Please help us spread the word that the petition is now available! Email the RepealTheDeathTax.com link to everyone you know, post it on social media, tell friends and family. Any registered voter in California may sign the petition, and any person 18 years of age or older may circulate the petition for signatures (circulators are not required to be registered voters, citizens or California residents).
We need more than a million signatures and we're asking everyone to send the signed petitions back to us as soon as possible but no later than Tuesday, January 16. The return address is in the pdf with the petition, and we're working to set up a list of drop-off locations, too.
As you know, this important initiative will restore the ability of parents to transfer their home and a limited amount of other property to their children without any change to the property tax bill. It will also restore the same rights for grandparents if the children's parents are deceased. These constitutional rights that Californians had for decades were taken away by Proposition 19, which passed narrowly in 2020. Voters were not told that Prop. 19, in addition to protecting seniors and wildfire victims, was also the largest property tax increase in California history.
The Repeal the Death Tax initiative will restore the rights that were lost but will not change the other parts of Prop. 19. It will be retroactive, meaning people whose property was reassessed for a parent-child transfer will be able to get their property's original trended base-year value (under Prop. 13) back again, as if the reassessment had not taken place.
We will be launching a radio advertising campaign soon and we will do as much advertising as we can afford. If you're able to support the campaign with a donation, it will go far to help us make sure every voter in California hears about the Repeal the Death Tax initiative. Today is the first day that the petition is available and we wanted you to be the first to hear about it, because you have already done so much to help restore the constitutional rights that protected California families for decades. Thank you!!
