HJTA President Jon Coupal will speak at the State Capitol Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the news conference held by the coalition to oppose Assembly Constitutional Amendment 1, a dangerous attack on Proposition 13 that would make it easier to raise local taxes. ACA 1 would cut the vote needed to raise taxes from the current two-thirds, as required by Prop. 13, to just 55%.

“This reckless proposal is a time-bomb that will lead to an explosion of higher taxes, over and over again. The important two-thirds vote requirement protects Californians by forcing local governments to be thoughtful about how they spend existing tax dollars before they rush to the ballot for more,” Coupal said.

Others who will speak at the news conference in support of taxpayers include Sen. Roger Niello (R-Fair Oaks), Assemblymember Diane Dixon (R-Newport Beach), and David Kline, VP of Communications and Research for the California Taxpayers Association. Also in attendance will be Senate Minority Caucus Chair Janet Nguyen (R-Huntington Beach), Assemblymember Devon Mathis (R-Porterville), Assemblymember Jim Patterson (R-Fresno), Assemblymember Laurie Davies (R-Laguna Niguel) and Matthew Hargrove, President and CEO of the California Business Properties Association.
