The Issue

For years, residents of Oribanwa and Adeba communities in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State, have witnessed the decline of our once bustling and cohesive environment. The deterioration of Adeba Road, a vital artery in our community’s daily life, has not only hindered our transport systems but also isolated us from essential services and opportunities. In conjunction with this, the blockage and selling of our waterways have further exacerbated the region’s accessibility problems and posed serious environmental risks.

The road condition is deplorable. Water-filled potholes and eroded tarmac make commuting a nightmare, putting drivers and pedestrians alike in danger. Emergency vehicles can barely navigate it, causing frightening delays in response times that could have life-or-death implications. The worsening state of the road heavily impacts local businesses and schools, and it discourages investments at a time when our community needs economic rejuvenation the most.

Moreover, the disruption of natural waterways due to unsupervised sales and blockades has led to environmental degradation and increased flood risks during rainy seasons. Aquatic life, vital to our ecosystem and livelihoods, is declining. These waterways, which once served as both a livelihood source for fishermen and a natural drainage system, are now choked and inaccessible.

Our community’s pleas to local authorities have often been received with indifference or empty promises, leaving us to bear the brunt of these escalating problems. However, by uniting our voices through this petition, we can push for immediate and meaningful action to rehabilitate Adeba Road and restore our waterways.

We are calling on the Lagos State Government and relevant agencies to prioritize this issue, allocate the necessary funds and resources for the road’s reconstruction, and to initiate comprehensive plans to reopen and protect our waterways. We need strategic enforcement to prevent illegal sales and further obstruction of these vital natural resources.

These efforts will not only enhance safety and mobility for Ibeju-Lekki residents but also foster an environment conducive to economic growth, sustainable development, and community well-being. Let our message be clear: the time to act is now, and our community deserves better infrastructures and environmental preservation.

Please join us in this cause by signing this petition to make our voices heard and initiate the change we urgently need.
