When you call 911, help should come. But right now, in Pennsylvania, that call might not go through.

The state’s 911 system has been hit by outages, dropped calls, and failures to locate callers—across multiple counties.

In some cases, emergency calls haven’t even shown a phone number or location. This is a disaster waiting to happen.

Officials say it’s a technical issue, but they haven’t found the cause. And they’ve asked people to use non-emergency lines—during an emergency.

That’s not good enough.

We’re calling on Governor Josh Shapiro, the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency (PEMA), and state lawmakers to immediately:

Fix the 911 infrastructure failures
Launch a public audit and independent investigation
Fund emergency system upgrades so this never happens again
 

This isn’t a glitch—it’s a public safety crisis. Every second counts in an emergency. A working 911 system is not optional.
