These are the Goals of FIU, as posted on a plaque outside PC:

“To provide a university education to qualified students which prepares them for useful careers in education social service business industry and the professions; furnishes them with the opportunity to become effective members of the society and offers them an appreciation of their relation to the cultural aesthetic and technological environments.

“To serve the greater community with a primary emphasis on serving the greater Miami and South Florida area in a manner which enhances the metropolitan area’s capability to overcome the ecological cultural social urban challenges which it faces.

“To become a major international education center with a primary emphasis on creating greater mutual understanding among the Americas and throughout the world.”

As students, faculty, and people involved with FIU in a multitude of ways, OccupyFIU believes that it is possible as well as necessary for our administration to uphold the values implicit in these goals, and in doing so accomplish them:

>While upholding the US Constitution, including the freedoms of expression and assembly,

>While being transparent and forthcoming with how it operates and uses money, and submitting that operation to the students and faculty (through direct power of the purse),

>While investing in faculty and downsizing the excessive administration,

>With no more tuition increases, And

>While respecting (by not arresting) and fighting for (by dropping, condemning, or in some way opposing charges against) it’s students.

We, that is to say FIU Students, Faculty, Alums, Miami, Florida, and the World, need a University committed to and invested in education for it’s own sake and with a purposeful ambition. We need an Administration to run this University and we need one that will be more invested in the success of the students than in the success of the institution.

The World groans for better leaders as We groan for better Administration.
