On Friday, March 4th, 2022, an off-duty Kenosha police officer tackled a 12 year old girl and kneeled on her neck in a school cafeteria. The young girl has suffered a concussion, a neck sprain, and immeasurable mental health distress, not to mention the distress experienced by many students who observed the violence of this police officer to this young Black girl in their own school. The family and concerned community members, teachers, and students are calling for this officer to be fired and for the SRO contract in the Kenosha school district to end so that no additional children will be harmed or worse. To see the image of a white police officer kneeling on a child's neck recalls the violent incident that captured the world's interest in 2020 when an officer kneeled on George Floyd's neck and killed him. This incident unfolded in the very city where Jacob Blake was paralyzed by a police officer and where Kyle Rittenhouse took the life of 2 Black Lives Matter protestors. Meanwhile, the Kenosha police department is protecting the identity of the police officer in question. 

The Kenosha community and its allies demand an end to these cycles of violence to Black children. Students need counselors, not cops. Join us in calling upon the Kenosha Police Department to fire this officer and in demanding that the Kenosha School district end its SRO program this year.
