Fire Principal Coleman McDonough from Rush City High School

The Issue

Growing up, attending Rush City High School was a significant part of my life. It's where I made lifelong friends, grew academically, and built cherished memories. For me and my peers, it's more than just a school; it's a cornerstone of our community in Rush City, MN. However, recent events have cast a shadow over what should be a safe and nurturing environment for students.

Our current principal, Coleman McDonough, has been involved in numerous instances of inappropriate behavior and harassment, creating an unsafe atmosphere for students and staff alike. There have been repeated concerns about his conduct, ranging from lewd comments to unwarranted physical proximity, which have left students feeling uncomfortable and vulnerable. Despite these issues being reported, no effective action has been taken to address or rectify the situation.

Statistics show that in a safe educational environment, students are more likely to thrive both academically and socially. According to the National Education Association, a positive school climate is strongly correlated with students' success and well-being. Therefore, maintaining an atmosphere free of fear and harassment is not just a preference, but a necessity.

Many students at Rush City High School share the fear that they might have to transfer to another school to avoid such an unsafe environment. This is not a viable solution for most, and uprooting from our community should not be the consequence of someone else's misconduct.

The school administration has a responsibility to ensure the safety and well-being of its students. It is crucial for the Rush City School District to take immediate and decisive action by removing the principal from his position. This change will reassure students that their concerns are heard and that their safety is a priority.

We believe firing the principal is a step towards fostering a safer, more supportive educational environment that we all deserve. We urge the school board and district authorities to act swiftly and responsibly.
