Fire Kyle Whittingham as head football coach at Michigan
The Issue
Sunday mornings in Ann Arbor used to be filled with the buzz of victory celebrations, students and fans donning their maize and blue with pride. However, as the autumn leaves fall, so too must we face the hard truth about our football team's current state. Kyle Whittingham, brought in with high expectations, seems unable to restore the luster and glory that once defined Michigan's football dynasty.
The University of Michigan is steeped in a legacy of football excellence. We are known not just for our academic achievements but also for our beacon of athletic prowess on the national stage. Our stadium, the "Big House," should echo the roars of victory, not settle for moral victories. But recently, under Whittingham's leadership, our record paints a different picture—one of missed opportunities and unmet expectations.
Under Whittingham, the standards have slipped. The team's performance lacks the competitive edge required of a top-tier football program. It is disheartening to hear the term "rebuilding" or accept near-misses as growth. Our school and its passionate community deserve more—real victories, championship titles, and a resurgence of dominance in the Big Ten and beyond.
So what must be done? Firstly, it’s imperative we assess the coaching regime’s strategic framework. Our priorities should focus on securing a coach with a proven track record of turning programs into championship-caliber contenders. We need a leader who can revitalize the team's spirit, enhance recruitment, and implement innovative strategies to bring out the best in our student-athletes.
Secondly, the administration should ensure that the values embedded within Michigan football are upheld—values of hard work, resilience, sportsmanship, and a relentless pursuit of excellence. Only then will we be able to truly compete on college football’s biggest stages, aligning with our storied history.
Every close game lost, every "what if," chips away at the pride and identity that Michigan fans hold dear. Inaction is not an option, and settling is not synonymous with the Wolverine mentality.
We call upon the University of Michigan’s Board of Regents, athletic director, and all stakeholders involved to take decisive action. It’s time to restore Michigan Football to its rightful place atop college football, and this starts with new leadership at the helm.
Sign this petition if you believe in a future where Michigan football is synonymous with dominance, fearless competition, and undisputed victory.
