Fire Kathy Engelbert for Negligence in WNBA

The Issue

As a dedicated fan and former women's basketball player, I am appalled by what I've witnessed in the WNBA under the leadership of Commissioner Kathy Engelbert. The league, which I love dearly, has become a place where players are targeted for injury and assault, and this is occurring with no repercussions for the perpetrators. This situation is intolerable and we must demand a change at the top.

In the past years, several incidents have taken place where our athletes have faced physical aggression and intentional harm on the court. Despite the clear evidence and frequent occurrences, those responsible for these harmful actions often face little to no punishment. The players, who dedicate their time, effort, and talent to entertain us and promote the sport, deserve a safe and supportive environment. Instead, they find themselves in harm's way, as assaults are brushed off and injuries are seen as part of the game.

The role of the Commissioner is to ensure not only the growth of the league, but also the safety and well-being of its players. Unfortunately, under Engelbert's regime, there's a substantial lack of accountability and enforcement of rules that should protect these athletes. Each of these incidents is not just a failing on an individual level but reflects a systemic problem that must be addressed from the top down. If Kathy Engelbert cannot take decisive action to protect the players and uphold the integrity of the sport, she should step down as Commissioner.

It's outrageous and heartbreaking to see the ambition and dedication of these players overshadowed by preventable injuries and unpunished attacks. The WNBA has a responsibility to enforce a culture of safety and respect. No longer can we allow negligence and mismanagement to continue endangering our players and tarnishing the reputation of the league.

Calling on all fans, former players, and supporters of women's basketball: Let's stand together and demand the immediate removal of Kathy Engelbert. Sign this petition to send a strong message that we will not tolerate negligence and demand accountability and action to protect our athletes.
