During a public meeting, I witnessed an incident that no parent, student, or community member should ever have to experience. At this meeting, Keith Ervin, a member of the Washington County Board of Education, made an inappropriate comment by referring to a high school student as "hot." To my utter disbelief, Jerry Boyd, the superintendent present at the meeting, laughed at this utterly disrespectful remark.

This is not the first time Keith Ervin has been in trouble for inappropriate conduct. Despite previous incidents, he maintained his position, raising questions about the accountability and integrity of those in power within our education system. Allowing such behavior to continue sets a poor example for our children and undermines the moral and ethical standards expected of educators and officials entrusted with our children's education and welfare.

The Washington County Board of Education is responsible for making decisions that affect the academic environment and overall well-being of our students. How can we entrust the leadership of our schools to individuals who exhibit and condone such behavior? Jerry Boyd’s passive acceptance of Keith Ervin’s comment reveals a disturbing lack of leadership and judgment. As superintendent, he is expected to uphold the highest ethical standards and create a safe and respectful environment for all students.

It is imperative that we take action now to hold these officials accountable. We demand the immediate removal of both Jerry Boyd and Keith Ervin from their positions on the Washington County Board of Education. Their continued presence undermines the trust and safety of the students they are meant to serve.

This petition calls for the necessary disciplinary actions to demonstrate that misconduct and inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated in any form, especially when it involves those who should be champions of our educational institutions.
