The time is now for Jeffrey Schiffer to be fired from the Executive Director position at Native Child and Family Services of (NCFST). 

Mr. Schiffer is a German and Jewish, cultural anthropologist who falsely claims to be a Metis person. He has not responded to the repeated requests of many Indigenous peoples specifically asking him; who his family is, which Metis Community he is from and claims him. Mr. Schiffer’s ongoing refusal and dodging to answer Native universal protocol is quite telling of the fact he is not Metis. Shirley Turcotte is Jeffrey Schiffer’s mother. Ms. Turcotte claims to be from Peguis First Nation. However, it is confirmed she is not registered with the band. She works at Focusing Initiatives International in trauma work. Her practice is based off stolen Native sacred knowledge from the communities she's travelled to over a span of many years.

Persons who falsely claim to be Native or Metis cause significant harms to Indigenous communities and nations, as follows, 

-Erasure of Indigenous peoples

- Infringement to Indigenous Self-Determination and Sovereignty Rights

- Violence against Indigenous women, children, youth, men and 2-Spirit

- Loss of job opportunities (various industry sectors, speaking engagements, platforms)

 

In this Truth and Reconcil-action it is imperative raceshifters such as Jeffrey Schiffer be immediately fired with no severance pay. Mr. Schiffer is a self proclaimed child advocate, when in reality he co-opts ideas, methodologies and Native teachings to misappropriate from actual Indigenous grassroots advocates, Elders, Knowledge Keepers and academics. Mr. Schiffer’s behaviour towards Indigenous mothers, grandmothers and aunties is of distain, arrogance and violence. Countless times he has given orders to NCFST staff to call the Toronto Police to arrest lifegivers who rightfully state how the child welfare agency continues the Residential Schools, Day Schools and 60s Scoop genocidal legacy; of what is now the Millennium Scoop genocide.

It is very clear Mr. Schiffer sole purposes to his claim of being Metis is to obtain employment. Mr. Schiffer ’s salary at Native Child and Family Services of Toronto in 2021 was $225,260.79.

The exploitation, data mining and violence of Indigenous families, communities and nations is on a large scale throughout the country. Mr. Schiffer’s dishonesty opened many doors to think he can speak on behalf of Indigenous peoples.

Urban Indigenous Child and Family Well-being, Decolonization and Indigenous Innovation can not move forward in Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area because of the violence Mr. Schiffer inflicts to Indigenous women and 2-Spirits who assert their Self Determination and Sovereignty Rights to be included in decision making during Ontario’s child welfare redesign. Reconciliation, justice and healing efforts with the City of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, non-profit sector and Indigenous community can start to improve when Mr. Schiffer is gone from the Executive Director position. To repair the harms the Native Child and Family Services of Toronto’s Board of Director’s caused to Indigenous peoples in hiring Mr. Schiffer, it would be ideal to organize an in-person community meeting to gain feedback and Indigenous-led ways to hire a new Executive Director.
