The Issue
FIRE JAMIL JIVANI NOW
We, the undersigned, call on Pierre Poilievre and the Conservative Parliamentary Caucus to immediately expel Jamil Jivani from caucus.
We are signing because Jivani has repeatedly undermined Canada’s position during a direct economic and political confrontation with Donald Trump’s administration, while maintaining extraordinary access to Vice-President JD Vance and other senior U.S. officials.
At a time when Trump has threatened Canada’s sovereignty, imposed punishing tariffs and repeatedly spoken about Canada becoming the 51st state, Jivani has:
- travelled repeatedly to Washington for his own meetings with senior Trump officials;
met with JD Vance, Marco Rubio and U.S. - Trade Representative Jamieson Greer;
spoken with Donald Trump;
been accused by Conservatives themselves of engaging in “freelance diplomacy”; - gone on American right-wing media and dismissed Canada’s reaction as an “anti-American hissy fit”;
- attacked Canada’s retaliation against U.S. tariffs as an “overreaction”;
- repeatedly attacked Canadian leaders while urging accommodation with Washington;
- forced Pierre Poilievre to publicly distance the Conservative Party from his comments;
and been publicly praised by JD Vance while Vance dismissed Pierre Poilievre as a “non-entity.”
This is unacceptable.
JD Vance has openly spoken about American pressure being used to change Canada’s behaviour.
Canadians therefore have every right to ask why a Canadian Member of Parliament is being celebrated by the Vice-President of the very administration attempting to pressure Canada into changing its economic and political direction.
Jamil Jivani does not get to run his own foreign policy.
He does not get to undermine Canada’s negotiating position while operating a separate channel to Washington.
He does not get to ridicule Canadians for defending their own country.
And he should not remain inside the Conservative caucus while the Vice-President of the United States publicly elevates him above his own leader.
We therefore demand that Pierre Poilievre and the Conservative Parliamentary Caucus:
- Immediately expel Jamil Jivani from caucus.
- Demand full disclosure of his meetings and communications with Trump administration officials.
- Call on the RCMP and Canada’s national-security agencies to determine whether Jivani’s dealings with U.S. officials warrant investigation for foreign interference, espionage, treason, or any other offence under Canadian law.
- Make clear that no Conservative MP may conduct a parallel foreign policy with a foreign government.
- Canada is not the 51st state.
Our sovereignty is not negotiable.
Our trade policy is not written in Washington.
And Canadian MPs should never help a foreign government weaken Canada’s position.
