- Empowerment and poverty alleviation
- Public Health and HIV education
- Philanthropic tourism in Sub-Saharan Africa
And is currently working on a study of stigmatisation of HIV/AIDS In East Africa.
Why the above information?
It is there to serve as a fitting description for the person Gary portrays themselves to be, rather than who they are.
On the morning of 27/02/2023 an African student stepped into Gary Laceys tutorial.
As she was under the impression that she was in the wrong classroom, she then heard professor Gary Lacey, continue to yell out racial slurs.
Gary Lacey decided to yell out several instances of racial slurs, including the most commonly known racial slur towards African individuals, the n-word, in different instances using the word with a hard er.
These references to the racial slurs were not for educational purposes. They were a reference to a jokes within Gary’s personal life.
As the only African student in the classroom felt very uncomfortable and targeted by Gary’s racial slurs, they stood up and confronted Gary.
Once confronted Gary excused their behaviour, by stating, “It is okay for me to say it, my wife is Kenyan”
My question is, how does Monash let something like this happen on the first day back to their campus, to their own student, paying for their private education.
To then advertise themselves as a supporting community of all communities and nations, is a joke within itself.
This petition is to get Gary Lacey fired.
No one should be able to get away with humiliating and discriminating an individual, let alone their own student on campus.
Monash offers “racial training” sessions, however, it is evident enough that an extremely well educated man like Gary, did not just spew those words out for a better lack of understanding, but because they are aware and have targeted to go against the standards that we uphold as a community, and decided to risk their current occupation, to racially discriminate a student on campus.
