We are deeply saddened to report that Ted Turner, the pioneer who founded the very networks we are fighting to save—CNN, TNT, TBS, and Cartoon Network—passed away on May 6, 2026, at the age of 87.
Ted Turner was a visionary who prioritized bold content and independent leadership. His passing underscores exactly why our petition is so critical. Under current leadership, many feel the "Turner spirit" of innovation is being replaced by corporate consolidation.
We believe Jim Samples is the right leader to honor Ted’s legacy. Samples spent years at Turner Broadcasting, including as President of Cartoon Network, and understands the unique DNA of these brands. By pushing for this change in leadership, we are not just asking for a new CEO—we are fighting to keep Ted Turner’s revolutionary vision alive.
Rest in peace, Ted. We will continue the fight to protect what you built.
