FIRE CANUCKS PRESIDENT OF HOCKEY OPERATIONS, JIM RUTHERFORD
The Issue
Like many in BC, I've been a Vancouver Canucks hockey fan for many years and through many generations of the club. This version of the Vancouver NHL hockey franchise is, without a doubt it's most troubled, disjointed and unsuccessful. Throughout this season, many players and even the coach have been blamed for the team's worsening performance. Among those condemning the team's performance, and that of its coach has been the Canucks President of Hockey Operations, Jim Rutherford. Rutherford, who's own career record as a goalie reflects a less than impressive 151 wins and 227 losses, believes one of two things:
- One of the main reasons for the team's lack of success is the lack of success of coach, Bruce Boudreau, who's own 16 year career as a coach totals, prior to this season, nearly 600 wins in just over 1,000 games, making him one of the winningest coaches in NHL history
- Whether Bruce Boudreau is doing a good job or not, he is ultimately responsible for the state of his current team, as he is the coach and the ultimate responsibility lies at the top of the food chain.
On what is likely the eve of Bruce Boudreau becoming the 'fall guy' for the Canuck's latest poor results and facing an imminent job termination, I urge ALL Canucks fans and fans of the game of hockey to look higher - to the man ULTIMATELY responsible for the team's operation, its President of Hockey Operations, Jim Rutherford. As the old saying goes, what's good for the goose is good for the gander. If the reasons above apply and justify the firing of a career successful coach, then they must surely apply to his boss, who's career, unlike his the coach he's about to let go, hardly suggests he knows how to generate success.
If Bruce needs to go, then so does Jim! Lend your name to this petition and send a message to the Vancouver Canucks organization that the Canuck's problem is bigger than any player or coach. Let your voice be heard and let ownership know that the only way to resolve this perpetual downward spiral is to stop the bleeding at the source of the wound; the man who most directly pulls the operational hockey strings, Jim Rutherford!
