The Issue

In 2018, the taxpayers of West Linn, OR, demonstrated their strong community support by passing a $20 million bond issue aimed at enhancing our public parks and facilities. Among the most exciting projects approved was the construction of four covered pickleball courts at Tanner Creek Park. This initiative, sanctioned by the then City Council and enthusiastically backed by the residents, was one of the key highlights to improve recreational options in our city. Fast forward, and it’s disheartening to observe that, despite the budget being allocated, this project has been systematically blocked by the Parks Department with continuous delays and excuses. This isn’t just about a sport; it's about accountability and honoring the commitments made to the community.

Pickleball is one of the fastest-growing sports in America, offering health benefits and fostering social connections among its players. The proposed courts would not only serve as a venue for exercise but as a place for the residents of West Linn to come together, enjoy the outdoors, and build community spirit. Moreover, access to a Playtime Scheduler would streamline use and encourage community members to engage more actively in pickleball events, fostering a vibrant and active city culture.

The funds are there—the $1.9 million remaining from the General Obligation Bond is sufficient to bring this promise to life. All it requires is the execution of the plan already set before us. We implore the current city officials and the Parks Department to prioritize this project and to respect the wishes of the people who supported the bond initiative. It's not only about building courts; it's about restoring trust and ensuring that taxpayer money is spent as promised.

We call upon our fellow West Linn residents to join in this petition to demand that our voices are heard, and that the promise of the Tanner Creek Park pickleball courts is fulfilled. Sign this petition to urge the city to take immediate action and make good on its commitment to the community. Let's come together and ensure that our city honors its promises and enhances our recreational facilities for everyone.
