The Issue

A young dog, now named Dolly, was found near death in Lexington, Massachusetts. She was so emaciated that she could not stand, had open wounds on her feet and tail, and suffered multiple seizures from hypoglycemia. She is now in the care of Angell Animal Medical Center, where she is receiving emergency treatment.

This is not just heartbreaking. It is criminal.

The Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (MSPCA) believes Dolly’s condition is the result of extreme neglect and abandonment. Officials are asking for the public’s help in identifying the person responsible. We stand with them in demanding accountability and action.

Massachusetts has some of the strongest animal cruelty laws in the country, but enforcement requires resources, awareness, and public pressure. No one should be able to starve and abandon an animal without consequences.

We are calling on the Massachusetts State Police, the MSPCA Law Enforcement Division, and the Office of the Attorney General to:

  • Fully investigate Dolly’s case and identify the person responsible for her condition
  • Pursue felony animal cruelty charges if warranted under Massachusetts law
  • Increase public awareness around signs of abuse and how to report it
  • Expand funding and staffing for MSPCA’s animal cruelty investigations statewide
  • Create a public registry of individuals convicted of felony animal cruelty offenses

Dolly’s recovery is ongoing, but justice is far from done. We owe it to her, and to every animal suffering in silence, to send a clear message: abuse will not be ignored.

Sign this petition to demand justice for Dolly and stronger animal cruelty enforcement across Massachusetts.
