Find and Charge Whoever Harmed Ellie, a 16-Year-Old Warren Dog
The Issue
Ellie is a 16-year-old dog who weighs just five pounds. Her family in Warren, Michigan, says she was taken from their front yard on a Monday night. A neighbor reportedly saw a woman get out of a car, walk onto the property and carry Ellie away.
Ellie wasn’t seen again until Saturday, when a woman brought her into an UrgentVet clinic. According to clinic staff, the woman said she had found the dog after it had been hit and had washed her at home before bringing her in. Workers at the clinic described Ellie’s injuries as burns. They scanned her microchip and called her owners, Rebecca and Mike Jones.
“She looked like someone skinned our dog,” Mike Jones told Local 4 News.
Ellie is now being treated at Oakland Veterinary Referral Services, bandaged and with a tube in her nose. Her family says she is getting stronger. But nobody has explained what happened to her during the days she was gone, or who caused her injuries.
The Warren Police Department says the case is still under investigation. A tiny senior dog had no way to protect herself, and animal cruelty is a crime in Michigan. A case like this deserves every resource needed to find answers, not a file that slowly goes cold.
The Warren Police Department should follow every lead, including the car the neighbor saw, nearby security cameras and everyone who had contact with Ellie while she was missing. The Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office should review the findings and, if the evidence supports it, file animal cruelty charges.
Sign the petition to ask Warren Police and the Macomb County Prosecutor to find out who hurt Ellie, before the trail goes cold.
