Finally implement traffic calming measures on London Road, Westerham

The Issue

London Road in Westerham is being treated like a racetrack.
Cars and motorbikes are accelerating dangerously along its bend and ramp, putting residents and pedestrians at constant risk.

In just the past 12 months:

  • A mother and her baby were nearly hit when a van crashed into a wall on a bend
  • Several homes have already been damaged by collisions
  • Motorbikes and cyclists have used the road for dangerous racing
  • Near misses occur endlessly, each one a potential tragedy

(A montage of video evidence is available on this petition)

This stretch of London Road is heavily used by pedestrians. A school sits nearby, and the Almshouses are directly opposite. Children walk this route daily, and elderly residents often cross slowly.

The combination of speed, poor visibility, and vulnerable pedestrians makes a serious accident not just possible, but likely.

We need urgent action.

Our community has seen what’s possible. Hosey Hill in Westerham has already benefited from traffic‑calming measures—proof that the council will act when residents raise legitimate safety concerns.

We are calling for similar protections on London Road, such as:

  • Speed tables (similar to speed bumps, but less abrasive - thus less noise & pollution)
  • Clearer signage
  • Traffic‑calming cameras

These are not luxuries. They are essential to protect our families, neighbours, and visitors.

Join us in demanding immediate action from local authorities.
