PRC Licensure Exam for Automotive Technicians

The Issue

We, Philippine Society of Automobile Practitioners are humbly petitioning the Philippine Lawmakers to consider passing a Board Law that will allow us to become certified under Philippine Regulation Commission or to amend the Republic Act No. 8495 or An Act Regulating the Practice of Mechanical Engineering in the Philippines.

We, as practitioners feel discriminated or neglected since other technological and vocational courses are having Board Examinations and we have not. Though we are supposedly under Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers, unfortunately we also not included nor may qualify for CPM (certified plant mechanic) examination because the requirements qualifications does indicate we should have a plant machinery experience as stated in Article III section 16.

Having a Board Law for us will help standardize and lift up the current status of automobile curriculum in the Philippines in which we are far behind in terms of technology of other countries. The Automobile industry now is very much advance, complex and continuously progressing with additional systems into it and we should cope on that changes otherwise our technicians/ practitioners will lag behind in knowledge of these new technologies.

This will also become a catapult to create a five year course for Automotive Engineering from existing three year diploma course. This also very necessary to a developing country like the Philippines in studying and finding ways to improve and create an environment-friendly transport vehicles and lessen our dependency on fuel fossils. Moreover, it will eventually harness our potential and existing talents to create our own Philippine made engine and vehicle in the future.

Most importantly, by being a certified automobile technicians will help us to boost our career path and elevate our position in the company with this added qualifications. Thus, it means additional income for every technician family.

We call on the Lawmakers and Mechanical Engineers to help and support the Philippine Automobile technicians, engineers and practitioners in realizing the creation of Board Law for Automobile Technicians and Engineers.

Mabuhay tayong lahat!
