Stop shipping live fish

The Issue

As the national airways of Fiji, Fiji Airways is proud of its warm friendly Fijian service, welcoming people from around the world. We ask that Fiji Airways and its partners: Qantas Airways, Air New Zealand, Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Cathay Pacific and Solomon Airlines help protect and preserve the well-being of coral reefs by not participating in the shipment of live fish. Reef fish are important species that reside on coral reefs around the world, including Fiji's, and are essential for healthy oceans. Coral reefs are the rainforests of our oceans. Some estimates are that 25% of the worlds reefs are already dead. The practice of removing fish from coral reefs to be used in the aquarium trade is both harmful to fish populations and destructive  to the coral reefs themselves. The worlds oceans are under attack from many sources and ending the shipment of live coral reef fish is one way to help protect our oceans now.

The picture below (taken on a Fiji Airways flight in 2014 on a stopover in Christmas Island), shows  how aquarium fish taken off of the coral reefs of Kiribati are being roughly thrown on a cart to be loaded onto our airplane for sale in the U.S. for saltwater aquariums.
