Fight Inhumanity and Neglect Toward Stray Animals
The Philippines is a home to thousands of strayed animals, in every streets, road and even in the neighborhoods, you will effortlessly spot a stray animal. But can we really call the streets, roads and our own neighborhood their home? If home is where we feel the most loved and cared, why is the stray animals are experiencing things that should never be experienced in a home? Is it their fault that they are neglected and abused? Or us humans are just ruthless enough to perform inhuman things towards them?
Based on a study, the Philippines has around 13 million stray animals as of 2022. our ignorance in terms of animal welfare, and being an irresponsible pet owners led to the over population of the strays, herewith, more strays experience abuse in the hands of us humans. Those innocent strays fight for their life in a daily basis just to survive in the streets. A survey that is conducted in Australia indicated that about 26% of the respondents witnessed mistreatment to the strays in different inhuman form of abuse.
The lack of laws and regulations is one of the main causes why the abusers are still practicing the inhuman cruelty towards the strays. Local government often fails to manage or even support the advocacies that fight against the abuse that the strays are facing. Thousands of helpful advocacies for the strays were missed due to the lack of support from them. Imagine the happiness that the strays will feel if they were able to be helped and have the chance to be loved and cared, a well as the disappointment that they won’t have that chance because we weren’t able to support those that want to help them.
Some of the strays that are moved to the pounds are mass killed and some are even killed in a very brutal ways. Some strays mainly dogs are killed to be eaten, some are buried alive. The cruelty they also experience in the streets are also very devastating, such as getting thrown in the rivers, being kicked and played around, being beaten by sticks and metals, being poisoned, attacked, run over by a vehicle and tons more unimaginable abuses.
Even a simple vaccination can help them reduce their sufferings in the streets. Strays that are able to escaped from death caused by inhuman abuses will spend their lives with painful wounds, major and minor injuries, diseases due to the infection at the wounds, lifelong disabilities and a lifetime fear and trauma.
Mistreatment towards the innocent animals mainly to the strayed animals that are neglected and abused in the streets should never be justified. Us humans that have the ability to care for them, should never be the cause of their sufferings. We should help them as much as we could so that they were able to live a much more safer life in the streets. Even though we can’t really adopt them all, we should support the advocacies that will improve their living situation in the streets. With the little things that us, humans, can do, we can definitely make a huge change and make the streets a better home for them.
