Fight for the 500 BLK

Kristen DagataWest Palm Beach, FL, United States
Created April 3, 2023

The Issue

The 500 BLK has become a weekend destination for over 3 years. Between live music, art vendors, and street games there is always something for everyone. The City of West Palm Beach is no longer permitting the 500 BLK weekend parties and has denied our attempts to extend our permit.

Over the past 30 years we have seen the success of annual block parties including St. Patrick’s Day, Moonfest, Respectable’s Street Anniversary, Pride on the Block, and New Year’s Eve. We bring the community together to celebrate holidays, learn about new cultures, and most importantly unite people. In 2019, we expanded these events to a weekly occurrence. The reaction by patrons and business owners was astronomical. Despite the pandemic and having to shut down for almost 6 months, the 500 BLK maintained its appeal, and has become a destination in West Palm Beach. Friday nights include the Art Market filled with vendors from all over South Florida, live music performances by local bands, and of course our staple Drag Show hosted by legendary and renowned performers. Saturday nights gained even more traction with live bands, guest DJs, themed nights, fashion shows, and even Elvis!

The 500 BLK always includes the community. Twice a year we host the children of Belle Glade, Riviera Beach, Pahokee, and West Palm Beach to join us for a visit from Santa to give them gifts, free food, games, and performances by the school bands. And of course, the dogs! Dog Adoption events are frequent on our block. They help our furry friends find forever homes.

Please take a stand with us to protect the 500 BLK weekend events. Sign below and leave a comment to show your support.

We are taking a stand at the next Commissioner Meeting on Monday, April 17th, 2023. Meet us at the artist alley next to Subculture Coffee at 4pm to support the cause!
