Fight For Nurses to Have Their Drinks at Their Station

The Issue

As a nurse diligently proving patient care, we spend most of my time on our feet, providing crucial care to patients rather than sitting comfortably. Each time we feel the need for a sip of water, we are forced to walk to a designated area for drinks. This not only takes critical time away from patient care activities but also causes unnecessary strain.

Nurses are figured at the heart of patient care. The Bureau of Labor Statistics indicates there are nearly 3 million registered nurses in the U.S (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2019). The National Nursing Association affirms that the average nurse walks between 4 to 5 miles during a 12-hour shift (National Nurses United, 2016).

Given these statistics, it becomes vital to consider improvements that can optimize a nurse's efficiency while ensuring their wellbeing. We propose that nurses be allowed to take their drinks back to the nurses' station. The stations, away from patient care areas, do not risk contamination or a violation of sanitary rules.

This change could significantly enhance workflow efficiency, reduce unnecessary physical strain, and ensure superior patient care. Let us prioritize the warriors who prioritize our health in the most critical situations.
