Fight for Fair COLA Raise for LVMPD Officers

Fight for Fair COLA Raise for LVMPD Officers
The Issue
LVMPD officers dedicate themselves daily, sacrificing personal time and much more to ensure the safety and security of every resident in Clark County, Nevada. Every shift they take, every call they respond to, they face the uncertainties and challenges of the streets not just as a job, but as their commitment to our community. Yet, despite their unwavering dedication, they are now facing a potential reduction in their wages due to an increase in PERS contributions.
City and county officials need to act immediately. It's imperative to implement a COLA (Cost of Living Adjustment) raise that not only matches but exceeds the loss of wages resulting from the PERS hike. This adjustment is essential to ensure that our officers are not financially penalized for a change they have no control over. It’s simply not right for those who put their lives on the line to have to worry about their pay at the end of a hard day’s work.
In Clark County, we pride ourselves on community values and supporting those who keep us safe. The current situation is not just about numbers but about fairness and respect for the vital service provided by LVMPD officers. A failure to appropriately compensate these officers could lead to decreased morale and potentially affect staff retention and recruitment (including a potential strike which delays and impacts services to the county.) Our officers should feel valued and secure in their livelihood, just as they strive to make us feel safe.
We call upon city and county officials to address this urgent matter. Implementing a fair COLA raise for LVMPD officers will not only rectify the wage discrepancies caused by the PERS contribution hike but also reaffirm our commitment and gratitude towards those who protect us daily. Sign this petition to urge our local government to take the necessary steps to ensure justice and fairness for our dedicated officers.
Officers are seeking at least a 4% COLA increase to offset the 1.9% reduction in pay. Many feel that COLA has been lackluster every year and the time for real COLA increases is now.
