Fight against vehicle theft in the GTA

The Issue

Cars being stolen within broad daylight within the GTA area is becoming a more common trend by the day. Cars such as Range Rovers and Cadillac Escalades have had their value decrease tremendously due to the controversies that surround these "Easy to steal" vehicles.

According to Toronto Sun
That crime put carjackings in the city at 179 so far in 2022, up 209% from 2021, a Toronto Police spokesperson told the Sun on Tuesday.

The 5,909 auto thefts so far in 2022 are an increase of 45% from last year.

In May, Toronto Police funded $2.3 million to have a special force tackle vehicle theft and carjackings.

Cops note carjacking incidents and auto thefts are different. A carjacking has an element of violence during the actual theft of the vehicle, making it a robbery.

The action plan for their initiative should meet several criteria: -

1.To sell abroad: Stolen vehicles are often immediately packed – with their vehicle identification numbers (VINs) still intact – and shipped abroad, where they are sold for many times their original market value.

2.To sell to unsuspecting consumers: Stolen vehicles may be given a false VIN and then sold to unsuspecting consumers. They can also be dismantled and sold for parts.

3. To get somewhere: This may be referred to as “joyriding.” Auto theft of any kind is a crime and innocent people may get hurt or killed as a result.

4.To commit another crime: Stolen vehicles used to commit other crimes are often recovered – abandoned and badly damaged – within 48 hours of their theft.

If our police do not defend us, they need to let us know. The police need to brush up as they don't have the manpower to deal with these growing number of crime cases in the GTA. On the other hand, insurance companies are dodging the victims. It is a complete failure of the public protection, police, politicians, immigration, including the federal government. Research shows that vehicles are stolen every 45 minutes in Ontario, especially in the GTA. These injustices have strongly affected me, so I want to take a stance, in order for our coming generations to grow up in a fair and safe environment.
