Fight Against PG&E Increases

Fight Against PG&E Increases
The Issue
Petition to Address Increasing PG&E Prices
To: California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), Governor of California, and PG&E Executive Leadership
We, the undersigned residents of California, write to express our growing concern over the rising cost of electricity and gas services provided by Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E). The consistent and significant increases in rates are placing an unsustainable financial burden on households, businesses, and communities across the state, particularly on low-income families and vulnerable populations.
Our Concerns
1. Excessive Rate Increases: Over the past several years, PG&E has implemented numerous rate hikes, making utility bills a significant strain on household budgets.
2. Lack of Transparency: Many customers feel that the rationale behind these increases lacks transparency and fails to adequately account for the needs of ratepayers.
3. Service Quality vs. Cost: Despite rising costs, PG&E continues to face criticism for service interruptions, wildfire liabilities, and delayed infrastructure improvements. Ratepayers should not bear the financial burden of PG&E’s operational mismanagement.
4. Impact on Vulnerable Populations: The rising costs disproportionately impact low-income families, seniors, and small businesses already struggling to make ends meet.
Our Demands
1. Immediate Moratorium on Rate Increases: We urge CPUC and PG&E to halt any planned rate increases until a thorough review of pricing structures and alternatives can be conducted.
2. Audit and Transparency: Conduct an independent, third-party audit of PG&E’s financials to ensure that ratepayer funds are being used responsibly and efficiently.
3. Equitable Rate Structures: Implement fair and equitable pricing structures that protect low-income households and ensure affordability for all customers.
4. Investment in Sustainable Solutions: Accelerate investments in renewable energy and wildfire prevention measures without disproportionately shifting costs onto ratepayers.
5. Enhanced Consumer Protections: Strengthen regulatory oversight to ensure that utility companies prioritize public interest and affordability over profits.
Why This Matters
Access to affordable and reliable utilities is a fundamental necessity. PG&E’s continued price hikes are forcing many Californians to make difficult choices between basic needs like food, housing, and energy. This is unacceptable in a state committed to equity and environmental justice.
We call upon our elected officials, regulators, and PG&E leadership to take immediate and meaningful action to address this crisis. Together, we can create a more equitable, sustainable, and affordable energy system for all Californians.
Sign this petition to demand accountability, transparency, and fairness from PG&E.
Sincerely,
California Residents
