Let's stand up for Fife's pupils - say NO to Council's stealthy £4 MILLION budget cuts

This petition had 1,470 supporters

You might not be aware that Fife Council is quietly cutting the Educational Services budget by £4.172 million over the next two years, despite a rise in Council tax of 3% and £27 million of uncommitted savings in their accounts.

Our secondary schools are worst affected, facing cuts of £2 million.

This means schools like Balwearie High, Bell Baxter High, Inverkeithing High, Madras College and Waid Academy are right now desperately trying to find ways to save hundreds of thousands of pounds a year. There is no easy way to do this in our already cash-strapped schools. Current options include cutting teachers, reducing choice for Higher and Advanced Higher subjects, less music, drama and art, scrapping PE and shorter school days.

These cuts are a devastating blow to both teachers and pupils. If we allow these budget cuts to go ahead Fife will see a massive downturn in the education that our children receive, with fewer teachers and less teaching time. Fife's already stretched schools desperately need our support! Please add your name to this petition asking Fife Council to urgently reconsider the budget cuts for education in Fife, and to reprioritise spending in favour of our young people.

We, the undersigned, request that Fife Council reverse the ongoing £4.172m cut to Education Services and in doing so, prioritise education to maximise the life chances of the young people of Fife.
