Football and politics shouldn't be mixed but this is no more just about politics. This is about the safety of the fans. In the first days of the Euro 2016 the Russian football hooligans have wreaked havoc in Marseille. They have even brought back violence to the stadiums amongst fans who want nothing to do with violence. This was for some years almost absent from European football. Sure, the Russians need a counterpart and the English have been willing in Marseille, but the Russians are hosting the World Cup, not the English. There is a very real possibility of deaths and serious injuries wherever the Russian football mob arrives. In their home country they are sure to be even more aggressive - the word out on the streets is that Euro 2016 is just a practice for what they intend to do when the cup arrives to Russia. Leaders of the Russian football mobs have selfrighteously boasted about their violent capability in the media and warned about the Cup in Russia. On behalf of the whole football community we ask FIFA to consider relocating the games away from Russia. It would show that the game won't tolerate violence on the streets or in the stands no more than it does at the pitch.
