With the tsunami wave of coronavirus attacks that has semi drowned European National Health Services, we need a radical way to inject cash into it.

Football clubs in the very top flight of European national leagues have a lot of wealth at their disposal through their TV rights, advertising and franchising revenues.

When football is resumed we will move towards the 2020 summer transfer window, where clubs buy and sell players. Last year at the end of the 2019 summer window European clubs in the top five leagues in Germany, Italy, England, France and Spain spent over SIX BILLION DOLLARS according to DeloitteSports Business Group. This amount was spent in a short period spanning no more than three months.

Given the financial struggles of our NHS, through many years of cutbacks, this petition is aimed at asking clubs in the top leagues to donate either 10% of their transfer budget or 10% of the money they make from the sale of players, towards a local NHS hospital in their city. The petition also hopes that FIFA and UEFA will take this opportunity to urge clubs to make this gesture of goodwill to support our local hospitals.

In this time of extreme economic hardship, it would be hard to stomach clubs spending 70 million dollars or upwards on just one player for example. It would be more palatable if as a society we all knew that a small percentage of this income was going towards helping our hospitals for the benefit for all of society, in these unprecedented if times.

Football clubs are amongst the most active and generous in their local communities. In our time of greatest need, we ask them to once again step up to the plate.
